The Coming Transhuman Era

From my TEDx Grand Rapids talk: the convergence of AI, biotech, and human augmentation is accelerating faster than most realize. What happens when technology advances beyond our ability to adapt?

In 2017, I had the privilege of speaking at TEDx Grand Rapids on a topic I'm deeply passionate about: the convergence of exponential technologies and what it means for the future of humanity.

The talk, titled "Push Humanity Forward," explores the accelerating pace of technological change, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and human augmentation, and asks a fundamental question: what happens when technology advances beyond our ability to adapt?

We are entering an era where the boundaries between human and machine are blurring. AI systems are becoming more capable every year. Gene editing tools like CRISPR are giving us the ability to rewrite our own biology. Brain-computer interfaces are moving from science fiction to early-stage reality. These aren't isolated developments, they're converging, and their combined impact will reshape what it means to be human.

The question isn't whether these technologies will arrive. They're already here in early forms. The question is whether we'll guide them with intention and humanity, or let them unfold without a plan. I believe we have a responsibility to push humanity forward, thoughtfully, inclusively, and boldly.
